Nearly 200 Hours of Testing Validates Key Requirement for Future Deployment in AI Data Centers
SARNIA, ONTARIO – AlumaPower, in collaboration with the Net Zero Innovation Hub and its project partners, has successfully completed nearly 200 hours of integrated system testing demonstrating that its aluminum-air Galvanic Generator™ technology can operate under highly dynamic power conditions representative of modern data-center and AI computing environments.

The testing was designed to evaluate the ability of AlumaPower’s integrated power generation and power conversion platform to respond to rapidly changing electrical demand patterns produced by AI data centers. Throughout the testing program, the system successfully followed varying load conditions including square-wave transitions and step loads while maintaining stable operation, providing important validation of a key technical requirement for backup-power applications.
As AI adoption accelerates and data centers continue to increase in both scale and power density, operators are seeking backup-power solutions capable of supporting highly variable power demands while delivering the reliability required for mission-critical operations. The results of this testing provide early evidence that aluminum-air technology can meet these operational requirements while offering the potential for long-duration energy storage and backup power.
“This testing represents an important milestone for AlumaPower and a major step in derisking the technology for AI data center customers,” said Rob Alexander, CEO of AlumaPower. “One of the key questions surrounding the application of alternative backuppower technologies in AI data centers is whether they can respond effectively to rapidly changing load conditions. These results demonstrate that our technology can successfully operate under those conditions and provide a strong foundation for future scale-up and commercial deployment.”
The testing also validated the integration of AlumaPower’s aluminum-air power generation technology with a 800V DC power architecture, aligning with future data center power distribution architectures. AlumaPower’s systems are designed to provide long-duration backup power using aluminum, a widely available and energy-dense fuel source that can be stored safely for extended periods and deployed when needed.
Unlike conventional backup systems that rely on fossil fuels, aluminum-air technology offers the potential for scalable, long-duration energy storage using recycled aluminum fuel. The company’s architecture is designed to support critical applications requiring extended backup duration, including data centers, telecommunications networks, utilities, defense installations, and remote infrastructure.
The successful completion of this testing represents an important step in AlumaPower’s broader commercialization roadmap. Future development efforts will focus on further optimizing system architecture and advancing larger-scale demonstrations with commercial partners.
As demand for resilient power infrastructure continues to grow, particularly within the rapidly expanding data-center sector, AlumaPower believes aluminum-air technology can play an important role in supporting the next generation of critical-power systems by combining long-duration operation, flexible dispatchability, zero emissions, and reliable performance under real-world operating conditions.
